{"id":14696,"date":"2017-04-03T15:52:44","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T22:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fxnutrition.com\/?p=14696"},"modified":"2025-08-28T15:17:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T15:17:12","slug":"my-routine-breakfast-bowl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fxnutrition.com\/blog\/my-routine-breakfast-bowl","title":{"rendered":"my routine breakfast bowl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weekday mornings are often a time for routine.<br \/>\nBetter to wake-up, engage in the habits that serve us without too much thought or pontification, and roll into the day with a fresh and healthy start. <em>(Weekends are a different story!)<\/em><br \/>\nAs we wrap up our granola-loving series I wanted to share one final favorite below\u2026<br \/>\nIt\u2019s the recipe that gives me get-up-and-go each morning. And believe me, routine doesn\u2019t have to be a bore. I look forward to my morning bowl every day!<br \/>\nYou might know that I\u2019m a bit rough and tumble when it comes to food prep. I admit I rarely follow a recipe or even use a measuring cup.<br \/>\nA handful here, a pinch there, a dab here\u2026you get the idea.<br \/>\nAnd we sometimes joke here on the <a href=\"https:\/\/fxnutrition.com\/counseling\/?utm_source=rpdx&amp;utm_campaign=CS&amp;utm_medium=blog-routine-breakfast-bowl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Replenish Nutrition Team<\/a> that we come up with some unusual food combinations to meet our unique and divergent dietary parameters and taste buds.<br \/>\nMany of my daily concoctions might not make the cut for a food blog or win a photography contest, but they do the trick for satisfying my palate, nourishment needs and fueling my busy days.<br \/>\nToday\u2019s granola is in this category.<br \/>\nTruth be told, it\u2019s not really a recipe but more of a pinch here, a handful there, and a whole lot of following your intuition and tastebuds. It may even be a stretch to call it \u201cgranola\u201d, but I\u2019m willing to bend the rules if you are.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s quick to make, packed with nutrition (think \u2018fat\/fiber\/protein\u2019), keeps me going all day long, and makes my tastebuds twitter with delight.<br \/>\nTo our communal and continued granola goodness!<br \/>\nWarmly,<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fxnutrition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/signature.png\" alt=\"Andrea Nakayama\" width=\"192\" height=\"63\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9811\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nP.S. Another reason I\u2019m sharing this recipe with you today is that it may very well be my most asked for recipe! Each year I mention it during class in my training course for practitioners\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/fullbodysystems.com?utm_source=rpdx&amp;utm_campaign=fbs&amp;utm_medium=routine-breakfast-bowl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full Body Systems <\/a>(when I\u2019m breaking down how digestion works) \u2014 and those clinicians always ask what\u2019s in my bowl.<br \/>\nP.P.S. (We\u2019re always up for a challenge.)<\/p>\n<h2>Raw \u201cGranola\u201d (mix and make)<\/h2>\n<p><em>Now remember\u2014this is less about following a recipe and more about following your kitchen (or granola!) intuition. This is roughly my morning mixture but you can create what works for you. Don\u2019t be shy. Mix and match to your heart\u2019s delight. You really can\u2019t go wrong. It\u2019s granola after all!<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ingredients<\/strong><br \/>\nhandful each of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>almonds<\/li>\n<li>walnuts<\/li>\n<li>pumpkin seeds<\/li>\n<li>goji berries or mulberries<\/li>\n<li>coconut flakes<\/li>\n<li>sesame seeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*Or any other combination of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit that work for your dietary parameters and tastebuds.<\/em><br \/>\nPulse the almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, goji berries and coconut flakes in a mini food processor until coarse. Place in a glass bowl and stir in the handful of raw sesame seeds.<br \/>\nStore this mixture in the freezer for future \u201cgranola\u201d-making. When you\u2019re ready to make your morning granola, you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Tbspn of the ground nut\/fruit mixture (from above)<\/li>\n<li>1 apple, diced<\/li>\n<li>1 tspn coconut oil<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbspn raw nut or seed butter of your choice (almond, cashew, pumpkin, sunflower, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>a few pinches of cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>pinch of sea salt (I love using vanilla sea salt)<\/li>\n<li>1 tspn maca powder (optional)<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbspn ground flax seeds<\/li>\n<li>non-dairy milk of choice (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation<\/strong><br \/>\nPlace approximately 1 Tbspn of your previously ground nut\/fruit mixture (from the first step) in a bowl with the diced apple.<br \/>\nAdd a few liberal shakes of cinnamon, a generous pinch of sea salt and maca, if using. Stir to combine.<br \/>\nAdd the raw nut butter and mash it around until it\u2019s well distributed in the nut\/apple mixture. If your coconut oil is solid, gently melt (over a LOW flame) and drizzle it into your granola bowl. Mix to form small granola-like clumps.<br \/>\nStir in the ground flax seed until it\u2019s incorporated into your granola. You should be left with a clumpy and yummy bowl of raw granola.<br \/>\nPour on some non-dairy milk of your choice, if desired, and enjoy!<br \/>\n<em>NOTES: You can make a large batch of the nut\/fruit mixture and store it in the fridge or freezer, but do not heat the granola once you have added the ground flax seeds. You can mix and match whatever ingredients you like \u2013 add or substitute other dried fruits, or different nuts and seeds, add superfood powders, sprinkle with bee pollen, and have some fun.
