This week we&#8217;re keeping it lighter. In fact, instead of lowering the stakes, we&#8217;re&nbsp;<em>raising the bar<\/em>. The energy bar that is!<br \/>\nThe scenario, as described by one of my busy clients in San Francisco is this:&nbsp;<em>You find yourself running late, in need of something to keep you going before the next meal, and you didn&#8217;t plan ahead with a homemade nutrition bar (you can tell I have been there!).<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>The question: Are there store-bought bars that get the Replenish stamp of approval?<\/strong><br \/>\nIn pursuit of the answer, my son Gilbert and I began to stalk the power bar aisles at our local co-op and natural food stores. We flipped over every flap on those rectangular packages and read lists of ingredients. (Some of them were&nbsp;<em>very<\/em> long!) We brought home the bars that passed the first competency: ingredient suitability.<br \/>\nWhat we looked for were whole-food constituents sans gluten, dairy and soy. That meant no<em>partially<\/em> or&nbsp;<em>isolated<\/em> anything. It also indicated that we knew each and every ingredient that went into the bar, and could actually envision it&#8217;s place in our pantry. Ideally the bar was one that we could make at home, but would choose if we were on-the-go and in need of something real QUICK, as in the scenario above.<br \/>\nThe next measure in our ruthless pursuit of the acceptable bar was to dig a little deeper into the ingredient list. The inclusion of agave was cause for demotion. (I&#8217;ll articulate more about agave in the soon-to-be-released&nbsp;<a title=\"Learn more about the Sweet Tooth, Bitter Truth Homestudy Class.\" href=\"https:\/\/sweettoothtruth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sweet Tooth, Bitter Truth Homestudy Class<\/a>.)<br \/>\nOur final ranking was based on grams of sugars (in this case always natural) compared to grams of protein. The more protein the better; the less sugars the better. While many of these bars have lots of the sweet stuff to make them tasty, there are times when we all need a little grab-and-go. I get it. So let&#8217;s look at which grab-and-go options are good-to-go.<br \/>\n<em>Before I reveal the choice winners, I first have to disclose my own favorite on-the-move, yet bar-less, snacks:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>* any combination of nuts, seeds, coconut flakes and goji berries (or other dried and unsweetened fruit)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>*&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gopalshealthfoods.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gopal&#8217;s Power Wraps<\/a> &#8211; Gopal also makes some bars that are worth checking out!<\/em><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>Energy Bar Line Up (drum roll please). . .<\/h2>\n<p><em>All these bars passed the Gilbert Nakayama (10 year old with a somewhat sophisticated palate) taste-test. If you can&#8217;t find them near you, order some online and keep a stash in your car, in your purse, messenger bag, backpack and even your suitcase!<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Gold<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.corefoods.com\/?q=node\/35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Core Defender Raw Cashew &amp; Cacao<\/a><br \/>\n<em>12 grams protein; 10 grams sugars<\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.corefoods.com\/?q=node\/21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Core Defender Raw Almond &amp; Raisin<\/a><br \/>\n<em>11 grams protein; 14 grams sugars<\/em><br \/>\nall organic, gluten-free oats, love these guys!<br \/>\n<strong>Silver<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160611204631\/http:\/\/www.goraw.com:80\/p\/54\/spirulina-energy-bar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GoRaw Spirulina Energy Bar<\/a><br \/>\n<em>7 grams protein; 14 grams sugars<\/em><br \/>\nall raw, all organic<br \/>\n<strong>Bronze<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.larabar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lara Bar Cashew Cookie<\/a><br \/>\n<em>6 grams protein; 18 grams sugars<\/em><br \/>\nwhole foods, minimal ingredients, easy to find!<br \/>\nOther viable possibilities (when in a pinch) that didn&#8217;t make the cut because they had too many sugars or contained agave.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130118095012\/http:\/\/myvega.com\/products\/whole-food-vibrance-bar\/nutritional-info\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vega Whole Foods Vibrancy Bars<\/a><br \/>\n<em>great ingredients, contains agave<br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therebarstore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ReBar<\/a><br \/>\n<em>fruit and veggie bar, good nutrients, little protein<br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160327073035\/http:\/\/organicfoodbar.com\/products\/activegreens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Organic Food Bar Active Greens<\/a><br \/>\n<em>organic, good ingredients, contains agave<br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140712013627\/http:\/\/www.organicfoodbar.com:80\/products\/CinnamonRaisin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raw Organic Food Bar Cinnamon Raisin<\/a><br \/>\n<em>nice ingredients, includes agave<br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Raw-Revolution-Organic-Chocolate-2-2-Ounce\/dp\/B000EDI2QM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raw Revolution Chocolate Coconut<\/a><br \/>\n<em>raw ingredients, includes agave<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you have a favorite bar that I missed but fits the outlined criteria?
