{"id":17977,"date":"2013-03-12T13:35:14","date_gmt":"2013-03-12T20:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fxnutrition.com\/?p=2539"},"modified":"2025-08-28T15:42:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T15:42:20","slug":"are-we-there-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fxnutrition.com\/blog\/are-we-there-yet","title":{"rendered":"Are we there yet?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<table width=\"554\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"554\">\n<div>\n<h1>What&#8217;s on my plate this month?<\/h1>\n<p>my body&#8217;s ever changing needs<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<table width=\"554\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"554\">\n<div>Oftentimes clients will ask me how they know when they&#8217;re\u00a0<em>there<\/em>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2656\" alt=\"iStock_woman-driving\" src=\"https:\/\/fxnutrition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/iStock_woman-driving1-290x193.jpeg\" width=\"290\" height=\"193\" \/><strong>Are we there yet?<\/strong><br \/>\nHave we reached our dietary goal?<br \/>\nIs this the stopping point?<br \/>\nIs it all better now?<br \/>\nBut for some of us,\u00a0<em>there<\/em>\u00a0is an elusive place that&#8217;s as hard to reach as OZ during waking moments. It&#8217;s not that we can&#8217;t (and don&#8217;t!) achieve our goal weight, energy and physical stride. It&#8217;s that it can be challenging to stay\u00a0<em>there<\/em>. . . forever.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not talking about the difficulty of\u00a0<em>Sticking With It!<\/em>, of learning how to heed your prescribed dietary plan or known parameters for optimal health. Instead I&#8217;m referring to the changes that occur within our bodies themselves.<br \/>\n<strong>As your body changes, so does its dietary needs.<\/strong><br \/>\nThis elusive\u00a0<em>there<\/em>\u00a0is certainly true for any of us who have autoimmunity or compromised immunity. Yet it&#8217;s also true for those who experience stress or aging.<em>Hey, that sounds like all of us.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>What it means is that the body is in flux.<\/strong><br \/>\nIn autoimmune conditions the times when we know we&#8217;re off track are called &#8220;flares&#8221;. A flare is the sudden onset of symptoms ~ it could be as extreme as a rash, dizziness or an attack of acute fatigue. Yet it may also appear more subtly, as something seeming slightly\u00a0<em>off<\/em>.<br \/>\nWhile I work hard to manage my own autoimmune thyroid condition (Hashimoto&#8217;s), I know full well that certain things can be triggers that upset the balance of my delicate system.<br \/>\nThose triggers can be stress, overwhelm and even air travel. They can be a bite of a food that my body recognizes as toxic, or the cold I caught from my son. And all of a sudden I&#8217;m no longer\u00a0<em>there<\/em>.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve come to recognize a flare for myself not as some overt expression that completely takes me down, but instead a touch of inflammation somewhere in my body (currently the tender breasts that I struggled with before I determined the diagnosis), a shift in my mood and outlook (away from my usual bright yet stealth disposition), and ultimately, the realization that I have to step up the self-care even more.<br \/>\n(<em>Damn<\/em>, I thought I was there!)<br \/>\nIn this way, I thank my autoimmune condition. It provides a feedback look that keeps me highly adaptable. After all,\u00a0<strong>survival of the fittest wasn&#8217;t referring to those with the most toned bodies, but instead to those who were most adaptable<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<table width=\"554\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"554\">Interestingly, stress doesn&#8217;t just happen outside the body, as a work deadline, a sick kid or parent, or a struggling relationship. Stress can happen\u00a0<em>inside<\/em>\u00a0the body all the time.<strong>That&#8217;s why I have two dietary pillars that I return to as a baseline each time I feel the balance of\u00a0<em>there<\/em>\u00a0disrupted.<\/strong>They&#8217;re the foundation of adaptability and self-care.They&#8217;re the same two pillars that I share with my clients as the backbone of health. And I&#8217;m going to share them with you today.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Pillar #1: Tend to your gut.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Digestion is where it&#8217;s at. Truly. If your digestion isn&#8217;t working for you, your body is under stress.<br \/>\nThis is why I&#8217;m so excited to be teaching over\u00a0<strong>400 health and nutrition professionals<\/strong>about the importance of the digestive system in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.holisticnutritionlab.com\/get-started.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holistic Nutrition Lab: Digestive Intensive<\/a>.<br \/>\nTomorrow we gather to dive further into the function and the physiology of the system that is the interface between our food and our cells, delivering either friend or foe.
