playlist: food as medicine on the 15-minute matrix
Posted by Andrea Nakayama
The 15 Minute Matrix is the award-winning podcast that delivers bite-sized insights and lessons on how to use the most important tool in Functional Medicine and Functional Nutrition.
I created the podcast to give people like you great content in easy to digest audios so you can learn while you work (or walk or cook or fold or commute.)
We’ll dive deep with other leaders in the field on how to use one food, nutrient, condition or metabolic pathway to better understand a holistic or functional approach to health and healing.
Then we map this food, nutrient, body function, or other remedy on the Functional Nutrition Matrix. The Functional Nutrition Matrix is one I created by adapting the Institute for Functional Medicine’s Matrix specifically for our needs as clinicians working with and focusing on the modifiable lifestyle factors in practice.
With this Matrix you can better understand what’s going on in the body of your client or patient and better see the next steps in your care.
Join me for this specially curated trio of episodes on the powers of food as medicine. In this trio we’ll map Magnesium with Dr. Alan Gaby and Precision Medicine with Dr. Grace Terrell, highlighting the interconnections of the full body systems and the importance of bioindividuality.
And because one size never fits all, I recorded a special podcast of my own, mapping Nutrition on the Functional Nutrition Matrix. In it you’ll learn a paradigm-shifting perspective that could change the way you practice forever.
#1 Mapping Magnesium with Dr. Alan Gaby
Magnesium is involved in over 300 different enzyme functions in the body, including ATP production, which is necessary for almost all biological processes. In this episode, Dr. Alan Gaby, renowned nutritional therapy expert, maps this key mineral on the Functional Nutrition Matrix.

#23 Mapping Precision Medicine with Dr. Grace Terrell
According to the principles of Precision Medicine, the physician of the future is a precisionist who sees patients not as an average, but as the unique individuals they are. In Precision Care, myriad tools and technologies are used to determine the patient’s needs for healing. In Functional Medicine and Nutrition, we draw upon similar concepts, as Dr. Grace Terrell explains.

#57 Mapping Nutrition with Andrea Nakayama
In this special episode, I take the mic to map Nutrition on the matrix. Why? Because I still believe we are getting Nutrition all wrong. Tune-in to learn more and ensure that you’re not making diet and lifestyle recommendations without this paradigm-shifting perspective.
